This Chevy is what - 8 years old tops? I get that it’s a rental-spec Equinox probably purchased for basic transportation, but it’s really rough and I haven’t seen others of this vintage this bad. Rear wiper blade was dangling on the back when he passed after this red light.

That looks like it was repaired and resprayed (albeit not very well) but yes it is sad to see cars only a few years old in dire need of some TLC

With Chevy, you soon realize how futile any repairs are so you just drive it until it does and leave it on the side of the road.

- Looks like it’s seen a lot of loose surfaces.

- If I had an Equinox of that generation I’d be actively trying to kill it too.

My boss has a slightly older Equinox and it’s a total POS. Rust coming through on every panel, in some really odd places too, he keeps having door handles and interior peices breaks, and had at least 3 major repairs in the last year. I think it’s an 07 with like 120,000 miles. He’s car shopping right now and there isn’t a single Chevy on the list

Weren’t most of them just a step above this when new? The prior generation seems to have nearly vanished from the roads already.

Someone in my workplace has one of these, it sounds like a Model A. This is built down to a cost/lowest common denominator motoring.

Good to see GM quality hasn’t improved much since the two early 2000s GMs my parents had. I think on reason I have no desire to own any GM is because of how shitty those cars were.

Exactly. My (18 year old) car has a milder version of the same problem. On the front of the hood, where it was poorly resprayed about 3 years ago. It’s much worse now than then 11 moths ago on the ‘ring:

Hood was probably resprayed at some point. That made it more prone to rock chips, and then he probably used one of those high pressure wand car washes (or worse a pressure washer).

Didn’t think of that. Could be a crappy respray. The general bad condition of the rest of the car (admittedly not in the photo - if I have time I’ll see if I can find it on my dashcam) made it seem like just neglect.

Fair enough. I’ve seen similarly rough new-ish Nissans as well.

Someone on here - I forget who sorry - posted that their Equinox has developed a random rust spot in the middle of one of the front door panels.

Possibly. Around here there are a lot of dirt roads and gravel driveways. Of course you don’t need a crossover to navigate them, but plenty of people buy one anyway just because the last 100 feet to their house is unpaved.

They’re built really bad and the paint sucks. I work in a body shop and have an Equinox sitting in my stall at work right now.

But I’m assuming that it’s a bad respray of some type. You rarely see OEM paint failure like that anymore.

I remember OEM paint on lower-spec Neons failing like this all the time in the 90's. So I at first I just figured this might be a throwback to that, but yeah bad respray seems more likely.
